Cadettes will put the "me" in Media as this journey encourages them to explore the great big multi-media world around them! Grades 6-8
**Please bring your own bagged lunch.The fee includes the book and the badges.The girls will be responsible for completing the Take Action project. The last session will be from 10 AM to 3 PM as the girls will participate in a Girl Scout Silver Award Workshop.

Prerequisite: Background Check
This course qualifies adult volunteers to take girls on overnight trips at museums/activity centers, lock-ins, hotels and places with no outdoor cooking. During this session we will discuss the following topics: the value of girls participating in outdoor activities, girl/adult partnership, planning & progression, characteristics of girl readiness, equipment appropriate for a simple overnight, required forms, create a kaper chart, safety measures and emergency procedures. This course should be taken a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the trip.

Ever wonder what it was like to be a Lighthouse Keeper 150 years ago? Join us for an overnight adventure and find out! Girls will learn about Absecon lighthouse History, take a night time climb to the top of the tower for a spectacular view, compete in a mile high tower challenge and end the evening with optional ghost stories. Light evening snack and a simple continental breakfast are included. (For questions pertaining to food allergies, please contact Milton Glenn at miltglenn@abseconlighthouse.org.) The lighthouse offers a Keurig coffee maker so adults may bring a favorite morning blend K-Cup along with them. All participants will receive an official "Absecon Lighthouse" patch. Don’t forget your pillow and sleeping bag! (Air mattresses are permitted as long as they are twin size only.) The lighthouse is located on a secure site and has onsite parking. Grades 4-10.

Outdoor 103: Outdoor Skills Overnight 10/1/16 - 10/2/16

This course qualifies adult volunteers to take girls on campouts where the girls will be cooking outdoors, having any type of fire, sleeping in cabins, yurts, platform tents or pitched tents. During this session you will experience hand-on activities such as: learning how to use a sketch map, reading trail blazes, preventing exposure to and removing deer ticks, tying knots, building and putting out a fire, performing flag ceremonies, pitching a tent, making a box oven, using a propane stove, Dutch oven and vagabond stove, and other basic camping skills.

Prerequisite: Girl Scout membership
Both CPR and First Aid are required for all First Aiders. To determine when a First Aider is required, consult the Safety Activity checkpoints. There is a $50.00 charge for the complete course.
If you wish, you may take First Aid/CPR from outside agencies. Be sure that the CPR course covers both adult and child CPR. Please consult Volunteer Essentials for approved courses.
