Teen Horseback Riding Course Description

Teen Girl Scouts who attend this 3 ½ hour program will practice walking their horse through obstacles and will learn to trot for those who are comfortable.

Teens will not only understand horse care and the potential of a horse career, but develop confidence in their ability to reach goals in relation to their experience in the program.

Girls will go through a safety training when they first arrive and will immediately get paired up with a fellow participant and a horse according to their skill level.  Participants will work as buddy pairs with volunteer assistants to tack and bridle their horse while learning more about horse anatomy, and jobs in the equestrian field like equine vets and farriers.  Buddies will work together as a team during the ride time to observe each other’s riding and learn how to improve their own riding.  Each participant will have approximately 40 minutes on a horse.

Parents will be asked to assist with the tacking and riding, so please come prepared to join in by wearing the same footwear as the participants.

Grade-level requirement: Girls must be in 6th-12th grade to participate.

TROOP LEADERS: To register multiple members of your troop for this program, you must go through Troop Management.
